The Love Punch (15+) – Starring Pierce Brosnan, Emma Thompson and Timothy Spall, directed by Joel Hopkins

Pierce Brosnan, although he may be the former James Bond, is no stranger to playing a thief on the big screen. Divorced and middle-aged, Richard Jones (Brosnan) sells his company to devious French businessman Vincent Kruger (Laurent Lafitte), in search of a trouble-free retirement. This fateful decision leads him to face bankruptcy after a fraudulent buyout, which wipes out his entire pension portfolio, including those of his ex-wife, Kate (Thompson).

Despite being divorced, Richard and Kate team up as they attempt to hunt down the shady CEO responsible for the fraud. The search for Vincent leads the ex-couple into a messy predicament in Paris after an unsuccessful confrontation with the French schemer. To compensate for their loss, Kate hatches a plan to steal a $10 million diamond, which Vincent had given to his fiancé.

In the midst of the cat-and-mouse chase across France, the former lovers enlist their friends, ex-serviceman Jerry (Spall) and his wacky wife Penelope (Celia Imrie), whom enthusiastically fly to the French Riviera, to help with the jewellery heist.

The Love Punch is a lighthearted romantic comedy that portrays Brosnan and Thompson believably as a former couple, using the robbery as a base to rekindle the romance between Richard and Kate. The story takes an even funnier turn with the arrival of Jerry and Penelope to the plot, as they add colour and humour to the story, resulting in tummy-aching laughter.

The Love Punch will steal into cinemas this Thursday 8th May.
