Captain America: The Winter Soldier (PG15) – starring Chris Evans, Samuel L Jackson, Scarlett Johansson and Robert Redford, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo

For Marvel Comics, turning its most popular comics into Hollywood films has proved a massive success. From Wolverine and Iron Man to Thor and Spider-Man, Marvel characters are making the super-powered leap off the page with greater frequency, and with  greater success than ever before.

And the latest sequel for one of its most iconic characters, the star-spangled, shield-slinging Captain America, won’t disappoint fans.

Steve Rogers (Evans) was once a short, scrawny army hopeful, desperate to prove his strength and patriotism. After signing up for a top-secret research project during World War II, Rogers was turned into a patriotic superhero, tasked with defending the country’s ideals.

Rogers continues his journey in The Winter Soldier as he struggles to find his place in the modern world. After an attack on a colleague, Rogers and his fellow agent Natasha Romanoff, the Black Widow (Johansson), face a new threat in the form of a Soviet agent known as the Winter Soldier… whose very identity will send shockwaves through Cap’s life. Joined by a new ally, the Falcon, the agents struggle to expose an ever-widening conspiracy while attempting to defeat this new mysterious enemy.

While fans will be sure their Marvel superheroes will always come out on top, the battle of good versus evil will still keep viewers on edge.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier hits theatres this Thursday, 3rd April.
