The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has announced an open call for public nominations for the Urban Treasures 2026 awards, celebrating the emirate’s long-standing cultural and commercial institutions.

The initiative, now in its fifth year, recognises establishments that have played a lasting role in shaping Abu Dhabi’s heritage and community life. Members of the public can submit nominations until 30 November for businesses that have been operating in the emirate for 20 years or more. These may include cafés, restaurants, bakeries, sweet shops, textile outlets, tailors, perfumeries, jewellers, pharmacies, and photography studios. After a comprehensive six-month review, 15 winners will be selected and honoured at a dedicated ceremony.

The Urban Treasures awards acknowledge the vital role of family-run and legacy businesses that have contributed to Abu Dhabi’s growth, diversity, and social fabric. From neighbourhood cafés to artisan workshops, these enduring establishments embody the emirate’s evolving identity and reflect the deep connections between people and place.

As part of DCT Abu Dhabi’s broader mission to preserve cultural heritage, the initiative champions those local businesses that continue to serve generations of residents, blending tradition with continuity. Each recognition reinforces the importance of cultural preservation within the context of a rapidly modernising city.

Residents are invited to consider the places that hold personal or collective significance — the bakery from childhood, the family’s trusted tailor, or the restaurant that turned weekly gatherings into lifelong memories. By nominating these establishments, participants help document Abu Dhabi’s living heritage and honour its unsung cultural icons.

Businesses recognised as Urban Treasures receive official acknowledgement and promotional support, enhancing their visibility among residents and visitors while celebrating their unique contribution to Abu Dhabi’s story.

To nominate an establishment for Urban Treasures 2026, complete the online form available on the DCT Abu Dhabi website. For further details and to view previous award recipients, visit Abu Dhabi Culture.
