Air Arabia, the Middle East and North Africa’s first and largest low-cost carrier (LCC), has officially taken delivery of its first Airbus A320neo aircraft, marking the beginning of its landmark 120-aircraft order placed with Airbus in 2019.

The new aircraft, powered by CFM LEAP-1A engines and fitted with Airbus’s signature Sharklets, was welcomed at a ceremony at Sharjah International Airport attended by Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammad Al Thani, Chairman of Air Arabia; HE Sheikh Khalid Bin Issam Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Civil Aviation; HE Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority; and Adel Al Ali, Group Chief Executive Officer of Air Arabia, along with senior executives from the airline and the airport.

A Major Milestone in Growth Strategy

The order comprises 73 A320neo, 27 A321neo, and 20 A321XLR aircraft, designed to support Air Arabia’s multi-hub operations across Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah, Morocco, Egypt, and Pakistan (Fly Jinnah). It represents the airline’s second direct Airbus order after 2007, when it purchased 49 A320s.

Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammad Al Thani, Chairman of Air Arabia, said:

“The delivery of the first aircraft from our Airbus order marks an important milestone in Air Arabia’s growth and fleet development strategy. As we continue to strengthen our fleet, we remain committed to operational efficiency, innovation, and sustainability, while ensuring comfort and value for our passengers.”

He added that the A320neo will enhance performance, support entry into new markets, and reinforce the airline’s sustainability commitments.

First Commercial Service

The brand-new A320neo will enter service on 1 October 2025, operating the inaugural commercial flight between Sharjah and Bangkok. More deliveries from the Airbus order are expected before the end of this year, further boosting fleet strength and enabling expanded route offerings.

Sustainability and Efficiency

The A320neo is expected to deliver a 20% reduction in fuel burn and CO₂ emissions, aligning with Air Arabia’s long-term environmental goals. With a range of up to six hours, the aircraft provides flexibility to expand regional and medium-haul operations while ensuring lower operating costs.

The cabin retains Air Arabia’s single-class configuration of 174 seats, recognized for its generous legroom in the economy segment. Passengers will also enjoy Air Arabia’s in-flight experience, which includes “SkyTime”, a complimentary streaming service, and “SkyCafe”, the airline’s onboard menu.

Strengthening Regional Presence

With the addition of the A320neo, Air Arabia’s fleet now totals 84 Airbus A320 Family aircraft. This milestone strengthens the airline’s network reach across the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, and beyond, complementing its leased aircraft and supporting its strategy to deliver cost-efficient, environmentally responsible air travel.

As Air Arabia continues to grow, its partnership with Airbus remains central to delivering value-driven connectivity while maintaining its position as the region’s leading low-cost airline.
