Hatta, the mountainous enclave of Dubai, is set to welcome over 3,000 participants on July 27 for the Open Sports Day, a major event under the Dubai Sports Council’s (DSC) flagship initiative, Our Summer is Sporty. Backed by the Supreme Committee for the Development of Hatta, the event will transform the scenic town into a hub of fitness, family fun, and community spirit.

The full-day affair includes both competitive and recreational sports, with activities designed to engage people of all ages, nationalities, and fitness levels. Among the headline events are a free public kayaking competition and a running race at the Hatta Dam, organized by Super Sports.

Organizers say the initiative is more than a sports event—it’s a lifestyle campaign. “This is about promoting physical well-being in the midst of Hatta’s natural beauty,” a DSC spokesperson said. “It aligns with our broader goals of making sport accessible and enjoyable across all communities.”

The Open Sports Day is part of a wider summer calendar in Hatta, headlined by the Hatta Summer Sports Tournament which runs through July 31. Hosted at the Hatta Community Development Hall, this tournament features a diverse range of events including a corporate football championship, a PlayStation gaming competition, a youth football festival, and a walking competition for seniors.

Girls’ sports are also in focus, with dedicated badminton and volleyball championships, while families can look forward to tug-of-war contests, a cultural quiz night, horseback riding, and a Hatta Honey themed children’s tour.

Hatta’s appeal as a health and recreation destination is further underscored by upcoming August activities. These include nighttime hiking in Wadi Hub and a yoga session at Hatta Dam—initiatives aimed at cementing the town’s year-round tourism potential.

The “Our Summer is Sporty” campaign is a flagship program from the Dubai Sports Council designed to promote healthier lifestyles across the emirate. It spans beach sports, snow and mountain activities, aquatic competitions, family programs, and specialized offerings for women and people of determination.

Supported by both public and private sector partners, the initiative ensures high safety standards while encouraging wide community participation.

With events like the Open Sports Day, Hatta is fast becoming a leading destination not just for tourists, but for wellness seekers and sports lovers alike. The blend of physical activity, cultural experiences, and natural beauty offers a compelling model for active tourism in the region.
