Residents of the UAE snapped up their chance to participate in the National Geographic’s Great Nature Project.

The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) partnered with two other organisations, Abu Dhabi Global Environmental Data Initiative and Mohammed Bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund, to promote the project which urged residents to take pictures of wildlife and plants in the cities, desert and at sea and upload them to popular social media sites.

By urging the public to ‘See It! Snap It! Share It!” with their smart phones and cameras, over 500 images captured the unique biodiversity in the country. Using the hashtags #GreatNature, #UAE, #animal and #plant, participants uploaded images onto Twitter, Instagram and the Great Nature Project website.

Amongst the most popular images shared included images of gazelles, falcons, camels, crabs, turtles, lizards and coral. Images of the UAE participants wildlife and fauna can be viewed on the EAD’s facebook page or the National Geographic’s Great Nature Project website, www.greatnatureproject.org.

The EAD is encouraging the Abu Dhabi public to continue sending pictures of wildlife and plants through its social media channels. Share your photographs online via Twitter: @EADTweets or on facebook: www.facebook.com/EnvironmentAgencyAD
