The Abu Dhabi Science Festival (ADSF) is back for its fourth instalment and this year the family-friendly event promises to be bigger and better than ever.

Held from 13th to 22nd November and aimed at five to 15-year-olds, ADSF will feature a wide programme of science-inspired workshops and exciting shows across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

“Science is a journey of discovery and an integral part of our every day life,” said HE Dr Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Education Council, ADSF’s official education partner.

“This festival is a celebration of what science can provide to the future of our students whose ambitions are very high.”

The inspiring and educational festival will be hosted on the capital’s Corniche and, for the first time, at Al Ain Zoo and Sharjah’s Al Majaz Waterfront.

Budding engineers can build miniature oil rigs; future surgeons can perform mock brain surgery; and Formula One fans can try their hand at building car engines. Workshops to make electricity-conductive dough and a new show about the science behind special effects are planned.

The ten-day festival will also feature 20 activities created in collaboration with local science organisations such as the Abu Dhabi Astronomy Club.

“Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) is core to our nation’s future as a knowledge-based economy,” said HE Ahmed Saeed Al Calily, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Technology Development Committee (TDC). “It is vital that we inspire our young people to pursue careers in STI-related subjects so that it is embedded in the fabric of society.”

This year, more than 1,000 specially trained students from local universities will act as ‘Science Communicators’, guiding children, teachers and parents so they can make the most of their ADSF visit.
