As schools across the capital welcome in the New Year, many are also embracing local talent as almost 1,500 Emiratis have started jobs in the education sector.

Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) has recruited Emirati headmasters, teachers and administrators to increase the amount of qualified UAE citizens in the field by 26 per cent.

After advertising job vacancies on its website, the council has employed 52 female and three male head teachers, 372 female and 24 male teachers and 960 female and 74 male administrators.

Adec’s director general, HE Dr Amal Al Qubaisi, said: “Adec is pleased to increase the number of Emirati talent across its public schools by 26 per cent, as part of the UAE leadership’s vision to empower and recruit quality Emirati professionals in the workforce. The recruitment of 1,485 educators across our public schools will help increase competition in the education sector and will intensify Emiratisation plans as per the government’s future economic plan, Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030.”

Headmasters will be offered professional development opportunities to advance their performance.

Adec’s executive director of school operations, Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, explained that the Emirati candidates have been recruited for their speciality and experience. He said: “Our aim is to qualify and empower each candidate to perform their jobs as best as they can. For that reason, Adec’s operations sector is closely monitoring their progress and assisting them through a hands-on-training programme that will help support them throughout their careers.”

When the council began the employment process, hiring special education teachers was a priority, according to Al Dhaheri. He added: “Part of Adec’s strategy plan is to integrate special needs students into public and private schools. For that reason, we have collaborated with the philanthropic youth organisation Emirates Foundation and the Higher Colleges of Technology to recruit highly qualified special education teachers, and are certain they will bring great value to our students.”
