Young Emirati’s Road to Recovery Highlights the Impact of Rehabilitation at NMC ProVita

At 26, Mr. E.G., an ambitious Emirati, faced a life-altering road traffic accident. The high-impact collision caused a severe fracture with an incomplete spinal cord injury, requiring urgent spinal surgery in October 2025. His recovery journey, however, became a story of resilience and hope.

After surgery, he entered intensive inpatient rehabilitation at NMC ProVita. Upon admission, he faced major physical challenges, including limited leg movement, poor sitting tolerance, and dependence on assistance for most daily activities. Nevertheless, his determination was evident from day one.

A multidisciplinary rehabilitation team provided comprehensive, individualized care addressing his physical, functional, nutritional, and psychosocial needs. Through consistent therapy sessions, Mr. E.G. steadily turned effort into progress.

Over several weeks, he achieved remarkable functional gains. He became independent in feeding, grooming, and upper-body dressing. Lower-body dressing and bathing required only moderate assistance. His mobility improved, allowing him to transfer safely from bed to wheelchair and into a vehicle with minimal support.

With continued therapy, his lower-limb strength, sitting balance, and bed mobility progressed further. Standing tolerance increased from mere seconds to 15–20 minutes under supervision. Using a walker, he took his first assisted steps—a major milestone in his recovery.

Dr. Eulalie Burger, Medical Director at NMC ProVita, said, “Mr. E.G.’s journey reflects what is possible when determination is paired with an intensive, individualized rehabilitation programme. His progress in independence, transfers, standing tolerance, and mobility shows the impact of a coordinated multidisciplinary team working toward sustainable goals.”

Despite ongoing challenges—such as inconsistent leg sensation, absent ankle movement, and occasional pain—Mr. E.G. remains positive. His perseverance turned each rehabilitation session into a meaningful step forward.

Reflecting on his experience, he shared, “It hasn’t been easy, but the support I received at NMC ProVita changed how I see the future. Every small improvement felt like a big step, from managing daily tasks independently to standing and taking assisted steps. Today, I feel I’m regaining my life with confidence and hope.”
