Epson expands renewable energy and green logistics

Epson has announced major progress in its sustainability campaign, highlighting a global shift to 100% renewable electricity and new initiatives to cut emissions across its logistics operations.

The actions are part of the second phase of the company’s “Our Actions” campaign, which spotlights practical applications of Epson’s environmental vision and its pursuit of efficient, compact, and precise technologies.

Global transition to renewable power

In 2023, Epson became the first company in Japan’s manufacturing sector to run all global Group sites entirely on renewable electricity. This transition covers not only production facilities but also offices and research centres worldwide.

The milestone marks a key step towards Epson’s long-term goal of becoming carbon negative and underground resource-free by 2050. It underscores the company’s commitment to measurable climate action and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

Sustainable logistics transformation

Alongside the energy shift, Epson is redesigning its logistics to cut greenhouse gas emissions. Initiatives include:

  • Switching from standard to high-cube shipping containers, improving capacity by 14.3% and reducing shipment frequency.
  • Using alternative fuels such as biodiesel and green methanol to transport 100 containers, saving around 220 tonnes of emissions.
  • Launching a new east-coast shipping route to North America, which has reduced overland rail transit and cut emissions by an estimated 320 tonnes.

Epson’s upcoming warehouse in Türkiye is also designed with sustainability at its core. Powered fully by solar energy, it will employ heat-treated pallets, automated stretch wrapping, and recycled packaging materials.

Corporate responsibility

Bella Tobing, Head of Corporate Sustainability & Government Affairs at Epson META-CWA, said:

“At Epson, we do not believe in sustainability as a slogan – we see it as a daily responsibility. Our transition to renewable electricity and our decarbonisation efforts in logistics are just two examples of how we are acting on that responsibility.”

Looking forward

Epson says its progress demonstrates how environmental responsibility can be embedded into every part of a global business. The company aims to continue strengthening circularity across its value chain while supporting industries and communities in their shift towards low-carbon futures.
