The UAE National Orchestra has joined the World Association for Performing Arts (WAPA), marking a significant step in its strategy to expand international partnerships. The membership integrates the orchestra into a network of leading performing arts institutions from 22 countries across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas.

The announcement follows the orchestra’s participation in the Beijing Forum for Symphonic Music. There, Managing Director Sheikha Alia bint Khalid Al Qassimi delivered a keynote address on the orchestra’s formation and artistic vision. The positive reception highlighted global interest in the UAE National Orchestra as a cultural institution that blends heritage with a forward-looking approach.

WAPA offers a platform for exchange, collaboration, and joint projects, including touring, digital initiatives, and talent development. Consequently, the orchestra can now pursue creative partnerships that span cultures, artistic traditions, and geographies.

“This membership is an important step in building our international presence as a national orchestra,” Sheikha Al Qassimi said. “Our participation in the Beijing Forum and the conversations that followed affirmed the relevance of our vision. We see this as the start of a wider exchange, connecting musical traditions, geographies, and ideas through collaboration.”

Launched in 2020 by the China National Centre for the Performing Arts, WAPA currently includes 34 member institutions worldwide. By joining, the UAE National Orchestra strengthens its role in representing the UAE internationally while establishing long-term cultural relationships.

The orchestra’s engagement with WAPA reflects a broader ambition to showcase an original national voice. Its journey illustrates how the UAE is shaping its cultural institutions and positioning itself in the global performing arts scene.
