Samsung Electronics has announced that its 2025 OLED TV, the S95F model, has been officially certified as a Real Black display by Germany’s Verband der Elektrotechnik (VDE), one of Europe’s most respected electrical engineering certification institutes. The recognition makes Samsung one of the few manufacturers to meet the stringent standards required to claim a true black viewing experience.

The certification confirms the display’s ability to deliver near-perfect blacks, measured at below 0.005 nits in dark environments, as well as consistent black accuracy in sunlit rooms and under direct lighting. This means viewers can expect crystal-clear visuals with rich contrasts and deep blacks that remain unaffected by surrounding conditions.

“Earning VDE’s Real Black certification is proof of our commitment to taking OLED technology to new heights,” said Hoon Seol, Vice President and Head of CE Division at Samsung Electronics Germany. “We look forward to bringing more customers the opportunity to experience world-class picture quality with the deepest blacks and colour clarity.”

Ansgar Hinz, Chairman and CEO of VDE, added: “Samsung’s OLED stood out for its ability to maintain rich, accurate blacks across a wide range of lighting environments — from home theatres to brightly lit living rooms. This achievement reflects both technological excellence and a commitment to delivering consistent picture quality in real-world conditions.”

Meeting the highest standard

The flagship OLED S95F series is equipped with Samsung’s proprietary Glare-Free 2.0 technology, designed to preserve the depth and detail of black levels by reducing reflections. To earn the Real Black certification, Samsung’s OLED underwent three key tests:

  • Ambient light impact in bright rooms: Measuring distractions caused by reflections.
  • Black levels in dark settings: Ensuring performance met the 0.005 nits or less benchmark.
  • Surface gloss level: Assessing glare management with the new Glare-Free technology.

The VDE evaluation concluded that Samsung’s OLED technology meets or exceeds expectations in all three areas, validating its ability to deliver truly black performance under a variety of viewing conditions.

Optimised for entertainment and gaming

Beyond cinematic viewing, the certified OLED series is positioned as a premium choice for gamers. Alongside its Real Black recognition, the 2025 lineup is the first in the industry to be certified with AMD FreeSync™ Premium Pro and has also been validated as NVIDIA G-SYNC compatible. These features ensure smooth frame rates, reduced tearing, and consistent responsiveness during gameplay.

Samsung’s Real Black-certified OLEDs aim to redefine home entertainment by combining exceptional colour clarity, deep contrasts and reduced glare. The announcement also strengthens the company’s credentials as the world’s leading TV brand, a title it has held for 19 consecutive years.

By uniting advanced display engineering with gaming-grade technology, Samsung continues to set benchmarks in visual experiences, offering viewers a mix of precision, vibrancy and immersion.
