Telecom operator du has announced a contribution of AED 3 million in partnership with the Authority of Social Contribution – Ma’an to support cancer patients in Abu Dhabi.

The initiative, unveiled in the presence of H.E. Eng. Hamad Al Dhaheri, Undersecretary of the Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi, reflects the government’s growing emphasis on strengthening community-driven healthcare projects.

Officials said the funding will be channelled into critical medical treatment, patient care services, and healthcare programmes aimed at improving survival outcomes while reducing the emotional and financial burden on patients and their families.

The partnership also aligns with 2025 being declared the Year of Community in the UAE. The campaign encourages compassion, unity, and shared responsibility, with healthcare highlighted as a vital area for collaboration.

Strengthening social cohesion

H.E. Abdulla Hamid Al Ameri, Director General of the Authority of Social Contribution – Ma’an, said the agreement demonstrates the authority’s mission of directing resources toward projects with tangible community impact.

“This collaboration reflects the Authority’s ongoing commitment to strengthening social cohesion in Abu Dhabi by supporting impactful projects through community contributions,” he said. “Together with du, we aim to provide critical healthcare services to cancer patients while fostering a culture of giving, compassion, and collective responsibility across the community.”

Corporate responsibility

Fahad Al Hassawi, Chief Executive Officer at du, emphasised that the company’s role extends beyond telecommunications and into supporting communities at their most vulnerable moments.

“At du, our purpose extends beyond connecting people, it’s rooted in helping communities thrive,” he said. “By collaborating with the Authority of Social Contribution – Ma’an, we are delivering tangible support to cancer patients and their families, exemplifying how corporate resources can serve as a force for good. This initiative is in alignment with our vision to use innovation and collaboration to create positive social change.”

The joint effort aims not only to enhance treatment options but also to provide hope to families facing difficult circumstances. By sharing financial responsibility, the project underscores a model of cooperation between the private and public sectors.

Directing funds to impact

As part of the agreement, Ma’an – which serves as Abu Dhabi’s official platform for social contributions – will ensure funds are allocated effectively toward programmes that improve patient care.

The partnership will also launch new initiatives designed to make a “meaningful difference” in the lives of those battling cancer, according to officials.

Through the scheme, both organisations seek to foster greater public trust in healthcare initiatives while promoting a sense of solidarity within the UAE community.

With the growing costs of medical treatment placing strain on families, campaigners have welcomed the move as a timely intervention that highlights the role of corporate social responsibility in healthcare.
