Netflix Sets August Release for Metruk Adam

Netflix has officially announced the premiere date for its upcoming Turkish feature film Metruk Adam, set to stream globally from 22 August. The emotional drama promises a compelling story of redemption and familial bonds, led by rising star Mert Ramazan Demir.

Directed by Çağrı Vila Lostuvalı, the film follows the story of Baran, a man wrongfully imprisoned for a crime he didn’t commit. After years behind bars, Baran is finally free — at least physically — and sets out to rebuild his life, longing to open a modest repair shop. However, the emotional weight of his past proves more difficult to escape than the prison walls he’s left behind.

Demir takes on the central role of Baran, portraying a man grappling with years of suppressed trauma and the burden of injustice. His performance is expected to anchor the film’s emotional core, drawing audiences into the quiet resilience of a character who seeks peace but must first confront the wreckage of his past.

The screenplay is co-written by Deniz Madanoğlu and Murat Uyurkulak, both of whom are acclaimed in Turkish literary and screenwriting circles. Their collaboration brings a lyrical quality to the script, blending introspective drama with socially grounded storytelling.

Produced by OGM Pictures and helmed by Onur Güvenatam — known for successful television and film ventures in Turkey — the film marks another high-profile entry in Netflix’s growing catalogue of original Turkish productions. A brief teaser clip, also released by Netflix, has already garnered strong reactions online, hinting at the film’s intense tone and powerful visuals.

The plot intensifies when Baran’s plans for a fresh start are interrupted by a family accident. This pivotal moment introduces his young niece Lidya, played by child actor Ada Erma, whose presence becomes a turning point in Baran’s emotional journey. Through their unlikely bond, Baran is challenged to lower his emotional defenses and learn how to trust again.

The film also features Rahimcan Kapkap and veteran actor Ercan Kesal in supporting roles, adding depth to the narrative’s ensemble. Set against the backdrop of a working-class neighbourhood, with the sounds of engine parts and daily life echoing throughout, Metruk Adam blends realism with poetic reflection.

Thematically, the story explores how forgiveness, emotional healing, and hope can emerge from the deepest wounds. Through its portrayal of inner turmoil and unexpected human connections, the film encourages viewers to reflect on their own definitions of freedom and redemption.

With its emotionally charged storyline and a strong local cast, Metruk Adam is poised to resonate with audiences far beyond Turkey. Netflix’s investment in regional storytelling continues to open doors for diverse voices in global cinema — and this film may well be one of the most moving entries yet in its expanding international slate.
