Kia EV3 and Sportage win at 2025 What Car? Awards

Kia has secured two major honours at the 2025 What Car? Electric Car Awards, with the EV3 named Best Electric Small SUV and the Sportage recognised as Best Used Hybrid Family SUV.

The dual success highlights the South Korean carmaker’s growing strength in both new and used markets, with the EV3 building on its status as the UK’s best-selling electric vehicle in 2025, and the Sportage continuing its longstanding popularity with family buyers.

EV3 – a record-breaking electric SUV

The Kia EV3, launched last year, has quickly become the company’s fastest-selling electric model of all time. The compact SUV is also the reigning UK Car of the Year and World Car of the Year, following in the footsteps of its larger sibling, the EV9, which won both titles in 2024.

Steve Huntingford, Editor of What Car?, praised the EV3 for its comfort and value:

“The EV3 is a relaxing car to drive, with plush ride quality and minimal wind, road and motor noise. You sit higher than in rivals, giving an excellent view, and even the smaller battery option delivers impressive range.”

Paul Philpott, President & CEO of Kia UK, said the recognition was a significant endorsement:

“It is a great honour to receive yet more recognition for the EV3 and Sportage from What Car?. Its reputation as an independent, respected publication gives these awards greater meaning.”

Sportage – family SUV favourite

The Kia Sportage remains the brand’s best-selling model globally, as well as the second best-selling car in the UK this year. Since its fifth generation debut in 2021, the Sportage has been available with hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains for the first time.

The model was commended for its combination of practicality and efficiency. Huntingford noted:

“The PHEV Sportage offers impressive ride comfort with a smart, spacious interior and a 43-mile electric range. Buyers also benefit from the reassurance of Kia’s manufacturer warranty, making it a compelling used option.”

In 2025, the Sportage received a mid-life upgrade, introducing refreshed styling and new technology inspired by Kia’s latest electric vehicles, including the EV3, EV6 and EV9.

Growing recognition for Kia

The wins add to a growing list of accolades for Kia. Earlier this year, both the EV3 and Sportage were also recognised at the 2025 What Car? Awards, winning Best Small Electric SUV and Best Family SUV respectively.

With a rapidly expanding electric and electrified line-up, Kia continues to position itself as a key player in the global automotive industry, blending design innovation, sustainability, and consumer appeal.
