Copenhagen Tops 2025 Global Liveability Index

Copenhagen has been named the world’s most liveable city in the 2025 Global Liveability Index, published by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). The Danish capital leads a list that includes Vienna, Zurich, Geneva, and Melbourne, all celebrated for their blend of culture, design, safety, and quality of life.

Copenhagen’s top ranking reflects its reputation for sustainability, innovative urban planning, and a thriving culinary and cultural scene. Travellers can experience this award-winning city through IHG Hotels & Resorts, particularly at the Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers. Situated near the Bella Center and Ørestad Metro, the eco-conscious hotel offers easy access to central Copenhagen and popular sites like Tivoli Gardens and the Little Mermaid. Guests enjoy green atrium spaces and organic Nordic cuisine at the in-house Bark restaurant.

In second place, Vienna remains a symbol of elegance and cultural richness. IHG presents three distinct properties here. The InterContinental Vienna offers classical luxury overlooking Stadtpark, ideal for visitors seeking grand interiors and proximity to the State Opera and upscale shopping. Hotel Indigo Vienna – Naschmarkt blends local creativity with garden-inspired interiors, nestled near museums and the famed market. Zurich, ranked third, is recognised for its pristine environment, cultural offerings, and efficient public services. In fifth place, Melbourne remains a southern hemisphere favourite, celebrated for its food scene, creativity, and community feel. voco Melbourne Central invites guests to enjoy rooftop city views and fire-cooked dining just steps from Bourke Street Mall. Alternatively, Hotel Indigo Melbourne on Flinders captures the edgy spirit of the city’s famous laneways with interiors inspired by photographer Helmut Newton and a location surrounded by indie shops and vibrant nightlife.

The EIU’s annual index evaluates cities on stability, healthcare, culture, education, and infrastructure. This year’s top five reflect a global demand for cities that offer not just economic opportunity, but also lifestyle balance and authentic urban character.
