MGE Events has confirmed plans to launch the Dhofar Marathon in partnership with Experience Oman. The announcement took place at a press conference on 16 December at Anantara Al Baleed Resort Salalah, under the theme “Dhofar Moves, A Generation Growths”.

Organisers say the region is seeing a shift in how sport is viewed. Physical activity is being used as a tool to support healthier lifestyles and community engagement. Programmes linked to this movement have already reached more than 10,000 children, along with adults across Dhofar.

The Dhofar Marathon will take place in November 2026 and will be hosted alongside Anantara Al Baleed Resort Salalah. The location sits between the Arabian Sea and the historic Al Baleed site, offering a route that reflects the area’s environment and heritage.

The race structure is designed to include a wide range of runners. Participants can compete in the full 42km marathon, join a relay with two runners sharing the distance, or form a team of four. The course will move through towns, coastal roads, and inland landscapes, aiming to reflect the identity of Dhofar and support inclusive participation.

Mohammed Obaidanai, founder and CEO of MGE group commented:
“This is more than a race. It is a call to move, to grow, and unite. What started as a small idea has now become a catalyst for transformation across Dhofar, proving that sports can shift culture, open infinite doors, and change lives for generations to come.”

The organisers expect the marathon to continue attracting attention from across Oman and the wider region. The event supports Oman Vision 2040 by promoting active lifestyles, engaging young people, and contributing to the growth of sports tourism in Salalah.
