Tilda Swinton fronts Tom Ford Black Orchid Reserve

Academy Award-winning actor Tilda Swinton has been unveiled as the face of Tom Ford’s latest fragrance, Black Orchid Reserve, in a cinematic campaign that highlights themes of rarity and transformation.

Swinton, celebrated for her fearless artistry and transformative screen presence, described the collaboration as “a profound honour.” She added:
“Transformation, the blurring of boundaries and the celebration of magical properties have always drawn me close; Black Orchid Reserve is precisely such an enchantment.”

The campaign, launching on 1 September, was created under the direction of Tom Ford’s creative director Haider Ackermann. Shot by photographers Inez and Vinoodh, the visuals portray Swinton in fluid motion — a magnetic presence designed to echo the rarity of the fragrance itself.

Ackermann said the aim was to craft a cinematic portrait of “rarity in its most heightened form.” Swinton, known for her elegance, intellect and visionary approach to cinema, is positioned as a force of nature who awakens her surroundings through “gaze and gesture, stillness and strength.”

First introduced in 2006, Tom Ford’s original Black Orchid was hailed as a groundbreaking fragrance. Black Orchid Reserve builds on that legacy, debuting with a new hero note: the Ghost Orchid. One of the world’s most elusive flowers, the Ghost Orchid’s scent was captured using advanced headspace technology at the moment of its bloom.

This note introduces a luminous white floral character that contrasts with the deep, dark accords and spice of the original Black Orchid. The result, the house says, is a “new chapter” in the Black Orchid story — a fragrance designed to embody both brilliance and decadence.

Tom Ford, founded in 2005, has become a global luxury house known for sharp tailoring, seductive elegance and modern glamour. The brand, which operates in over 100 countries, became fully owned by The Estée Lauder Companies in 2023. Long-term licenses were secured with the Ermenegildo Zegna Group for fashion and accessories, and Marcolin for eyewear.

Haider Ackermann, appointed as creative director in 2024, has sought to push the brand’s artistic boundaries. The new campaign, with Swinton at its centre, marks a statement of intent — marrying high fashion with cinematic storytelling.

As Tom Ford introduces Black Orchid Reserve, Swinton’s portrayal underscores its central theme: a fragrance born from the quest for exceptional rarity, just as singular and captivating as the actor herself.
