One lucky Emirati will win a trip that is out of this world – literally – with the announcement that Aabar Investments will host a competition to send someone into space.
In cooperation with Virgin Galactic, the winner will secure a place onboard SpaceShipTwo’s commercial trip into space. With tickets currently worth $250,000 each, the nationwide competition is expected to be fierce.
“The specifics of the competition are being finalised but this is an ideal way for us all to give something back to the community of the UAE,” said Virgin Galactic CEO and president, George Whitesides.
“Without the support of Aabar Investments this programme would not be where it is today. We are on the precipice of achieving our first goal, our first flight to space which is expected to take place later this year.”
Virgin Galactic and Abu Dhabi based-Aabar Investments are co-owners of Virgin Galactic, which was founded by Sir Richard Branson, and aims to make commercial space trips a viable reality in the near future.
