Pre-owned cars show way

Fancy cars, lavish yachts and a pricey number plate – all these and more made it a fun-fuelled and profitable year for the motors section of the UAE’s popular classified website.

Dubizzle’s first Abu Dhabi motoring report reveals that over 125,000 car ads were placed on the site between January and November 2015. The Nissan Patrol emerged as the top-selling model with an average selling price of AED 166,327 and over 500 listings.

Toyota, Honda, Jeep, AMG and Mercedes were the most searched for car brands, while black, white and red were the preferred colours among automobile hunters.

As for the swanky types, the three most expensive cars posted this year include 2016 models of a Porsche 918 Spyder for AED 4.6 million, Lamborghini Aventador LP 740-4 Superveloce for AED 2.45 million and a Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe AED 2.3 million.

But it’s not just the cars that sell for hefty sums. A unique number plate – 570 code 6 – sold for AED 570,000 making it one of the most expensive ever posted on the website.

Osman Bhurgri, product marketing manager, autos at dubizzle UAE, said, “There is no doubt that the people of Abu Dhabi have a great passion for cars, with the recent Formula 1 Grand Prix event being a classic example of this.

“The auto industry in the UAE has continued to grow at a rapid pace, and the country remains one of the fastest growing automobile markets in the region.

“The used car market has also showcased some great resilience, and research has predicted by 2016, eight out of 10 people will buy a new or pre-owned car in the UAE.”

Amusingly, though hardly surprising, the most expensive item in the list was not a wheeled vehicle, or even a customised plate. The luxury yacht 2010 Hatteras 105 was offered for a staggering AED 30.4 million.
