Drive the desert in style

A purpose-built and locally-made desert car is about to hit the market in the UAE, taking dune bashing to new levels.

Designed for the desert, it’s also road legal, making it the ultimate off-roading vehicle for those who have an adventurous side.

Offering a dune-bashing experience like nothing else the Zarooq SandRacer boasts a top speed of about 200 kph, powered by a 3.5l V6 engine, combined with a six-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters.

“We don’t aim at being a large scale manufacturer, but a solid niche player consistently delivering innovative and reliable cars,” said Zarooq’s motorsport director Mohammed Al Qadi.
“We are an Emirati company and we want to show the world what we are capable of.”

Being released early next year the desert car is expected to go on the market for around $100,000 (AED 367,000).

When developing the vehicle Zarooq enlisted the help of former F1 driver Adrián Campos’ company Campos as technical partners, and esteemed designer Anthony Iannarelly, to give it a unique look.

Iannarelly was recently in the spotlight for designing the W Motors Lykan, the car seen flying between the two Etihad Towers in the film Furious 7.

Commenting on Anthony’s contribution, co-founder of Zarooq Motors, Iannis Mardell told Abu Dhabi Week: “He’s a visionary, he really likes to make colour stand out and his designs are iconic, aggressive and modern.”

He added: “There’s a lot of interest in dune bashing and desert driving but we’re aiming to take it to the next level.”

“It’s powerful on the sand and it’s been designed to drive in the desert in style.”
