Coinciding with the Future Hospitality Summit Africa 2025, Hilton (NYSE: HLT) announced a landmark plan to almost triple its African footprint to more than 160 hotels in the coming years. With over 100 new properties under development, the hospitality giant is set to support Africa’s fast-growing tourism and business sectors, while generating approximately 18,000 local jobs.

“Africa is brimming with potential,” said Carlos Khneisser, Hilton’s Chief Development Officer for Middle East & Africa. “Our expanded footprint supports growth across the continent, creating jobs and bringing Hilton’s world-class hospitality to new destinations.”

New Market Debuts: Angola, Benin, and Madagascar

  • Angola: Hilton enters with three signings, including Hilton Luanda Hotel Godinho (220 rooms), Hilton Garden Inn Luanda Airport (200 rooms), and DoubleTree by Hilton Cabinda Futila Residences (290 serviced units and villas).
  • Benin: Hilton Cotonou (233 rooms), in partnership with the Republic of Benin, will serve as a business and events hub next to the Congress Palace.
  • Madagascar: Hilton returns with two hotels in Antananarivo—a 170-room Hilton and a 120-room Hilton Garden Inn in a mixed-use complex.

Nigeria Expansion: 3 Strategic Signings

  • Curio Collection by Hilton – The Wave Hotel Abuja Jabi (93 rooms), opening 2026.
  • Hilton Lagos Ikeja (200 rooms), opening 2029.
  • Hilton Garden Inn Kano (100 rooms), the city’s first international hotel, opening 2029.

West and East Africa: Ghana, Ethiopia, Tanzania

  • Ghana: Hampton by Hilton Accra Airport (170 rooms), part of a mixed-use development near Kotoka International Airport.
  • Ethiopia: Two DoubleTree hotels in Adama and Dire Dawa mark first international brands in those cities.
  • Tanzania: Hilton re-enters with Canopy by Hilton Zanzibar The Burj (162 rooms), a lifestyle hotel in Fumba Town.

North Africa: Egypt, Morocco, and Fes Expansion

  • Egypt: Hilton aims to triple its portfolio to over 40 hotels.
  • Morocco: New signings including DoubleTree by Hilton Fes Golf (109 rooms), located near a golf course and Fes’s industrial quarter.

South Africa Highlights

  • Canopy by Hilton Cape Town Longkloof recently opened with 154 rooms in the vibrant Longkloof precinct.
  • Hampton by Hilton Sandton Grayston in Johannesburg marked the brand’s African debut last year.

Upcoming Launches in 2025

  • Hilton Accra Cantonments, Ghana: 145 rooms, multiple dining options, spa, and 900 sqm of event space.
  • DoubleTree by Hilton Addis Ababa Airport, Ethiopia: Rooftop restaurant and proximity to Bole International Airport.

A Continental Strategy for Growth

Hilton’s aggressive Africa growth strategy reflects the continent’s booming infrastructure, expanding middle class, and rising tourism and business travel demand. With a legacy of over 65 years in Africa, the company currently operates 63 hotels, with 100+ in the pipeline.

All new properties will join Hilton Honors, the company’s award-winning loyalty program with 218 million global members.

“From business hubs to resort destinations, Hilton is building the future of African hospitality,” said Khneisser.
