At some point or another, we’ve all made a complete fool out of ourselves. I can easily relate because I have been through more than words can describe. One event particularly, distinguishes it from anything else.
I remember it was on a Saturday night and I was celebrating my best friend’s birthday at her house. The place was packed with people from inside and outside of her school. Thankfully, the house was big enough to fit everyone. The highlights of the party included dancing, fun games, singing and one unexpected event that remained in everyone’s memory.
It all began while dancing with a couple of friends. My mind was so completely into the song that I shut off everything around me. What I didn’t know was that someone was recording a video of me. What made matters worse was that I didn’t find out until a friend sent me a link to YouTube. At first, I thought the video showcased the party and all the craziness that occurred. What I didn’t notice was that the video in fact, revealed my awful dancing!
Let’s just say the views were pretty high considering almost the whole school watched the video. What made this even more embarrassing was the fact that I didn’t know half of the people and that I was practically singing along to the song whilst dancing. The comments added to my humiliation and clearly indicated that the people were enjoying my misery.
Furthermore, convincing the uploader of this video to delete it proved to be a difficult task. I had to send emails and messages pleading as well as threatening that I would seek revenge. My threat seemed useless as everyone knew that not only was I bad at comebacks but also at taking revenge. Nonetheless, through my constant nagging, the video was finally deleted.
Although, it seems like a happy ending, it is not. Some people made copies of the video and sent it to others. For other people, the video stuck in their memories. At best, I learned a valuable lesson: never dance in front of anybody but mostly take precautions and avoid losing yourself completely on the dance floor.
