The high-speed but low-level thrills of the Red Bull Air Race are winging their way back to Abu Dhabi for the first time in three years, where daredevil pilots will do battle over the skies of the newly developed Corniche beachfront as they chase the 2014 title.

The Abu Dhabi leg of the World Championship will take place on 28th February and 1st March, 2014, when the 12 superstar pilots will race their planes in the fastest motor sport in the world, flying as low as just 15 metres above the water as they navigate the course at speeds of up to 370kph.

The UAE is one of six countries to be host the race, alongside Malaysia, Poland, Great Britain, USA, and China. And according to Faisal Al Sheikh of Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority the 2014 World Championship will be one of the major motor sport events of next year.

“Past races in the emirate saw many people descend on the Corniche to watch the world’s premier high-performance pilots lock wings in two days of exhilarating daredevil displays,” said Al Sheikh. “The authority ensure the series receives a typically hospitable return to Abu Dhabi and establishes an international billing as one of the next year’s keynote motorsport events.”

Reigning champion Paul Bonhomme of Great Britain, who won the last two world championships in 2009 and 2010, will be looking for an unprecedented third straight title in 2014. Bonhomme’s chief challengers will be 2008 champion, Austria’s Hannes Arch, and American Kirby Chambliss, who won the world title in 2004 and 2006.
