A humanitarian team made up of Etihad Airways volunteers and representatives from the UAE Red Crescent Authority, visited Syrian refugees in Jordan this week.

The volunteers provided hands-on support and distributed aid packages containing more than 50,000 blankets and other relief items, to refugees in the Muraijeb-Al-Fhood camp and the Emirati Jordanian field hospital in Al Mafraq.

“Etihad Airways is very pleased to be able to offer logistics assistance in support of the significant humanitarian aid provided by the UAE government,” said Etihad Airways’ president and chief executive officer, James Hogan.

“I am especially proud of our staff both from the UAE and Jordan who have committed their time to provide ongoing help to alleviate the stress and suffering in this crisis.”

The number of Syrian refugees has now reached 2.1 million, almost 539,000 of the displaced have fled to Jordan according to statistics released this week by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

Etihad Airways and the UAE Red Crescent Authority have been actively involved in supporting the displaced Syrian population since the outbreak of the unrest, and this recent initative builds on the work of previous humanitarian missions.
