New football facility kicks off

Footie fans can now get their kicks on Yas Island following the opening of a new facility.

Nestled between Ferrari World and Yas Marina Circuit, Yas Kicks has opened two seven-a-side football pitches to the public.

Currently in its soft opening stages, operations manager Kirsty Darlington commented: “This is phase one out of about ten phases. We plan to build an eleven-a-side pitch, and another one with a dome on it. We’ve got a plan for a big clubhouse as well.”

Primarily built to be the training grounds for the Royal European Football Academy (REFA) teams, Yas Kicks is also open to the public to take advantage of the grounds.

“Last September, our CEO Bambang Sugeng Kajairi, set up REFA (Abu Dhabi),” explained Darlington. “That’s where it started. We had to find somewhere to host our trainings. They got a plot on Yas Island and it’s the perfect location.”

REFA Abu Dhabi will now train from the Yas Kicks facility coached by instructors from REFA Valencia, Spain. The youth teams and ladies team previously used the facilities at Yasmina School.

The two new Yas Island pitches, which are kitted out with a spongy grass turf, can be split down the middle, providing four five-a-side pitches. Residents can make their own teams with friends and family, or request to join other teams at the facility.

Pitches can be rented from AED 300 per hour for the five-a-side pitch and AED 600 per hour for the seven-a-side pitch during peak hours from 6pm to 1am.

REFA will be holding youth and ladies trials in the first week of September for the new season. To find out more or book a pitch, visit: www.facebook.com/YasKicks
