Abu Dhabi is to become the focal point of sustainable agriculture following the initiation of a global declaration to be held in the capital.

As part of the initiative, the world’s leading food industry insiders will come together to identify and implement solutions for growing food security and safety concerns.

‘The Declaration of Abu Dhabi for Global Food Security through Good Agricultural Practices’ is a new public-private partnership initiated by GLOBAL GAP, the Sustainable Agriculture Initiative (SAI) Platform and the International Trade Centre (ITC).

“Today’s world is all about collaboration,” said Kristian Moeller, CEO of GLOBAL GAP. “We are proud to be part of this global food security initiative, which gives our members and our 140,000 farmers the opportunity to collaborate with even more industry players and stakeholders, in particular governments and food manufacturers.”

As part of the declaration, the partners seek to find more cost effective ways for farmers to adopt sustainable production practices, helping support their livelihoods and in turn reducing poverty and malnutrition. It will also address food safety and quality and the sustainability of natural resources.

A launch event will be held in the capital on 28th October, 2014 under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, deputy prime minister of the UAE, minister of Presidential Affairs and chairman of Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority.
