Abu Dhabi schools have been invited to participate in a new interactive science-based extra-curricular scheme, launched by Ferrari World Abu Dhabi.

The progamme – called Coaster Lab – was developed in partnership with the UAE Ministry of Education and Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC), and aims to teach the capital’s schoolkids applied scientific skills.

Private and public schools will be invited to sign up to the programme, which is suitable for students in Grade six up to Grade 12. Some lessons will be taught at school led by the science teachers, and other lessons will take place at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi.

“The programme is an educational initiative in the fields of science, technology, engineering and maths,” said Mike Oswald, general manager, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi. “It aims to instigate a genuine interest in what might otherwise seem drab in a school textbook.”

“Coaster Lab aims to help students grasp fundamental physics principles that govern the design of world-class roller coasters, while also providing a fun learning environment typical of the exciting world of theme parks,” Oswald added.

The course consists of five topics: energy, hydraulic launch systems, aerodynamics, gravitational force and magnetic braking systems.

“ADEC adopts a New School Model that is based on a student-centred approach,” said Salama Al-Amimi, executive director of organisational development and excellence office at ADEC. “Students learn in a technology-rich environment, with modern facilities that enhance critical thinking and problem solving, and help build self-confidence and creativity.”
