Can a golf ball ease muscle strain? To find out, we take a shot at a unique massage treatment

If you find playing golf relaxing, why not go one step further and experience a massage that involves being kneaded with golf balls?

That’s exactly what I do when I hear about the Golf Quarro massage at Atarmia Spa in Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi Hotel and Villas.

My Indonesian therapist, Gita, explains, “The combination of kneading muscles with hands and golf balls aids muscle repair, loosens stress knots and eases strain.”

Gita begins the treatment by washing my feet with warm water, before applying Natura Bisse aroma nectar stimul oil and Quarro cream to my back to soothe my muscles. This is followed by a slow hand massage to loosen my muscles.

She alternates using her hands and golf balls to massage me, but apart from when she applies extra pressure on my calves with the balls, I’m surprised to realise I can’t tell when she switches between the two.

It’s not painful, but the added pressure from the balls means Gita is able to reach deeper into my muscles. As the session rolls on, I’m on the verge of nodding off.

Once it’s finished, the experience is capped off with a hot peppermint tea in the treatment room.

This massage is designed for everyone, but if you have tough knots that need ironing out you’ll enjoy it even more – and your swing will loosen up in no time.
