Rain on!

We can’t count how many days it’s been since it rained in Abu Dhabi. Well, unless you count the rain that fell on the dance floor at Aloft’s Liquid Rain pool party on Friday 30th September. Though the parties were put on hold during July and August, Liquid is back and bigger than ever before.

The launch of the new season of monthly pool parties at Maï Café was an epic 11-hour special with three DJs and RADIO 1 broadcasting live. It started at 4pm and didn’t wrap up until 3am the next morning.

Not being the party animals we once were, we didn’t arrive at 4pm, but figured 7pm would be early enough to beat the crowds and grab a good spot. We were pretty surprised to find throngs of people already grooving on down in and around the pool! We decided to do a quick circuit, taking in the reserved prime poolside position VIP tables, the dance floor, Fatboy bean bags and the RADIO 1 VIP section before finding ourselves a comfortable spot slightly away from the pool on the patio area.

Stylish swimwear is definitely the order of the day at Liquid, which is what you’d expect for a pool party. However, a dip in the pool isn’t the only way to keep cool. What makes Liquid different is where the Rain part comes in – two contraptions in front of the DJ booth spray droplets of water onto the dance floor so that it really does feel like you’re dancing in the rain!

Back on the patio area, we acquired some food and beverage tokens – food options are good fill-ups like pizza and a live shwarma station – to take a bit of a breather, but it was difficult to stay off the dance floor. The DJs kept us on our feet for most of the night and the same can definitely be said for our fellow party-goers who kept the atmosphere alive and electric and were clearly having so much fun that it was impossible not to have a great time.

Aloft’s Liquid Rain pool parties take place once a month and the next one is a Halloween special on 28th October. From 7pm until 3am, entrance is free for ladies, AED 100 for guys including two beverages, but the party is strictly 21+ only so make sure to take some form of ID.
