Get ready to update your GPS once and for all, as by the end of 2015 every building, street and area in Abu Dhabi will get its own unique address, inspired by Emirati heritage.
The changes are part of an initiative called Onwani Unified Addressing and Wayfinding System. Onwani – which means ‘my address’ in Arabic – was created in 2013 and has renamed over 19,000 roads and 240 neighbourhoods ever since.
The new system aims to find unique street names to allow for a faster response by emergency services and a more efficient delivery system.
