Every third Saturday of the month budding musicians meet at Urban Bites in Shining Tower, next to Khalidiyah Mall, to perform at Metronome, a free event organised by recording studio White Cube Studios.
White Cube Studios was founded 18 months ago by musicians Abraham Wakim, Waleed Shah and Nerses Sanassian, who moved from Canada to the UAE.
Elia Mssawir, the studio’s manager, told Abu Dhabi Week: “There was no place in Abu Dhabi for young and upcoming artists to record their music professionally at an affordable price. This is why White Cube Studios was opened.
“Each month we select nine to ten artists to perform at our Metronome event. We always try to line up different people among those who have new music to showcase.”
The music performed on the night spans a range of genres from the spoken word and rap, to jazz and pop.
Mssawir continued: “In Abu Dhabi, it’s very hard for a new artist to perform live in front of people, which is essential for a musician to grow. Here, it’s all about the arena tours and huge festivals, but there are not many places where you can perform a small gig.
“Abu Dhabi is full of talented musicians. Most of them create and compose their own pieces, but only share them on Facebook or SoundCloud. There is a big underground music scene in the capital so it’s exciting to help them get discovered.”
The next Metronome will be held on Saturday 17th January from 6pm to 10pm.

White Cube Studios is located in the Al Nayhan Camp area, near patisserie Chocolala, on Muroor Road.
The studio is fitted with all standard studio equipment plus instruments including a drum set. One hour at the studio costs AED 200.
