Up, up and away!

We’re big kids at heart here at Abu Dhabi Week and so we were a touch excited to visit Ferrari World to try out their new ride – Viaggio in Italia.

This ride takes passengers on a flight over the beautiful landscape of Italy and we think to ourselves as we line up to board our ‘flight’ – how on earth are they going to do that? We didn’t even bring our passport!

The doors open and we file in, taking our seats and waiting to get strapped in. The dark room is filled with the quiet hum of the other passengers, all with their own theories on how the ride will unfold.

The friendly staff – or should we say flight attendants – check we’re all buckled in safely and that our belongings are stowed. “Are you ready?” they holler through the darkness. This gets a resounding “yes!” from the passengers.

We are hovering in the air in front of a giant screen that seems to envelop the senses. The ride begins to tilt slightly, mimicking the movements of a plane and we almost forget we’re inside a building and not up in the open air.

On the screen we are swooping through the sky, passing beautiful architecture and landscapes and as we fly low over the sea we can feel the salt-spray on our skin.

The scene changes to a lush, green forest and we smell something – forest fragrance is wafting by!

Our flight also chases a very slick Ferrari along a long, winding road, probably the only time we’ll ever do that!

Now we know where to come for a breather next time we’re seeking thrills on the Ferrari World rollercoasters.
