Readers Writes 2nd September

Dear Abu Dhabi Week,
I would like to congratulate the journalist on the preview of the UAE Professional League: informative and superbly well written. I have to say that Abu Dhabi Week always has excellent sports coverage – impressive! It would be great to get some more international sports coverage or comment though as the writer clearly knows his stuff!

Editor: Many thanks, and we agree – our sports writer Jon Muller is good. As for international news, we do try to find an Abu Dhabi angle to everything we do as a matter of policy; there seems to be many other ways of finding out what’s going on outside the Emirate, not so many reports on what’s happening here.

Dear Abu Dhabi Week,
I’m one of your followers who reads every issue. You’ve been opening most or even all topics in town and I’m very much interested in the eco-friendly issues which you have tackled, especially disallowing the use of plastic bags and prohibiting cigarette smoking. I’ve been waiting for updates and some actions taken about these matters; I believe this is very significant issues that everybody must have a grasp on. Kindly give us more information on how these plans move.
Lan Roque

Editor: Our understanding is that plans for banning plastic bags and increasing the restrictions on smoking are both well advanced. Everything slows down for Ramadan, of course, but we expect to hear more in the next few weeks. We’ll keep you informed.

Dear Abu Dhabi Week,
When arriving from Abu Dhabi airport I wonder how many tourists follow the brown tourist signs to Al Raha Beach (depicted with a sun umbrella which is used commonly around the world to direct to a public beach). They would surely expect golden sands, turquoise waters and public access to a beach perhaps with loungers and boats for hire and maybe a waterside bistro with freshly cooked seafood and refreshments. Until these facilities are available perhaps we should not get their hopes up?
