With sustainability as a guiding principle throughout design and development, Sowwah Square has received both local and international recognition and accreditation, being named the first integrated development in Abu Dhabi to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Core and Shell Gold Pre-Certification.
Ali Eid AlMheiri, executive director of Mubadala Real Estate and Infrastructure (MREI), owners of Sowwah Square said, “With Sowwah Square, we wanted to not only create a new business district, but establish a vibrant urban community that is as accessible as it is innovative and sophisticated. With this in mind, and keeping with Abu Dhabi Plan 2030, sustainability was of the highest priority.”
Administered by the US Green Building Council, and internationally recognised as the benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings, LEED measures sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
In addition to being the first development in the Emirate to receive certification, Sowwah Square is also the second largest project in the world to achieve the prestigious LEED-CS Gold pre-certification and one of only five projects in the UAE to have any form of LEED certification.
Anchored by the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX), The Galleria at Sowwah Square retail destination and two luxury hotels, Sowwah Square, at the heart of Abu Dhabi’s new Central Business District (CBD), is Abu Dhabi’s newest business district, and apparently now also one of the world’s most sustainable.
