Syed Sabir has been living in the Capital since January of this year. Originally from Mumbai, this self-described “nomad by heart” currently works as an optician. We asked him what he likes best about the city and here’s what he had to say.
The Corniche
Being a Bombaywala (now Mumbai), I was always fascinated with the sea, after coming to Abu Dhabi I was amazed to see the well decorated and well maintained Corniche. I’m a frequent visitor of the Corniche who likes to jog, relax and observe the beauty of the seaside.
The Food
Wow! The mouth watering shawarma on offer and the very cheap and easily available falafel are always making me hungry and asking for more. The city offers everything from McDonald’s, KFC and Hardees to name a few! You name it and they have it.
Entertainment
I have Elton John playing for me and Madonna making music so I can dance. Either I want to watch a movie or want to hang around a nightclub – all my wishes come true in the city of Abu Dhabi. Meeting places, hanging joints, I am enjoying all of it!
The Nights
They are famously called Arabian Nights for a reason! As the deserts cool down after a hot and humid day, the wind coming from the sea makes me feel relaxed and easy. I enjoy spending long hours sitting under the sky on the Corniche and looking at the bright and illuminated skyline of the city.
Itihad
The word Itihad in Arabic means united and it gives me immense pleasure to walk around with people of different cast, creed, colour and nationality. It makes me feel proud that Abu Dhabi is truly an international city, UNITING us all.
