Look at this!

In the wake of the recent massive 40th National Day celebrations, there’s no denying Abu Dhabi is crammed full of really interesting stuff to see – and a lot of it is on offer for free.

If you haven’t visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, for example, you really must. It’s nothing short of completely beautiful inside and out, and the free daily tours are both entertaining and information.

Just down the road, there’s the twisty Capital Gate building, the wide and welcoming Corniche and the splendour of Emirates Palace.

Pretty much everywhere you look in Abu Dhabi, though, there’s something interesting to look at. What about the circular Aldar headquarters building out at Raha Beach, the pristine Yas Marina Circuit or the gardens and walking paths all over Yas Island?

With so many amazing things to look at, though, how can it be that a minor fender bender can so completely captivate the attention of hundreds of motorists in the capital? It’s not like we’re starved for eye candy – we can’t turn our heads without a funky new iconic building popping up in our line of sight. So why is it that every time two cars bump (and let’s face it – it happens a lot), everyone on the road has to slow down to have a gander?

I propose that, unless you’re a medical professional or an auto mechanic, the next time we see a couple of cars off to the side of the road we should all carry on about our way. Because the last thing we call want to see is an ocean of cars standing still when we have so many other great things to look at.
