Abu Dhabi bags ‘Greenery’ award |
Abu Dhabi won the 2010 Greenery Award, beating a dozen other cities to the prize. This prestigious award comes in recognition of the efforts by the Municipality of Abu Dhabi towards expanding the scope of green areas all over the city and the pioneering greenery and forestation practices of the Emirate as a whole. HE Khalifa Al Mazrouei, general manager of the Municipality, called the award a “landmark achievement”. He added that it was a definite outcome of the strategy and directives of Abu Dhabi’s 2030 plan, which aims to place the capital among the best cosmopolitan cities in the world.
“All our policies and strategies point toward sustainable development and achieving an environmentally aware society,” said HE Majid Al Mansouri, secretary general of EAD. “Education is the way to achieve this because it helps to shape behaviour,” he added.
