Let’s face it: in today’s world, many people are looking for a quick bite to fit in between work, running errands, meeting friends and taking care of family.
So it’s always a relief when we stumble across a spot that offers good quality food that’s served up quickly.
Already boasting two outlets in the capital, Urban Bites is filling a gap in the city’s food scene by offering ready-to-eat meals for guests to take away or eat in.
Heading over to the Airport Road branch for a quick mid-week dinner with a friend, we are immediately struck by the cool – dare we say, urban – décor marked by graffiti on white brick walls with splashes of charcoal and navy blue.
Naturally, Urban Bites is not the place for a three-course gourmet dinner. The menu features the usual soups and salads as well as homemade pies, wraps and sandwiches – and even breakfast items. We opt for the vegetable pie; a flaky pastry dough envelops a modest vegetable filling, served with roast potatoes and salad.
Looking for something light, our guest chooses to make his own salad, opting for an unusual combination of rocket, shredded carrot, artichokes, green beans, chicken, caramelised walnuts and gorgonzola. A hearty bowl of fresh vegetables drizzled in a light olive oil dressing makes for a great light dinner.
As both main courses had arrived within minutes of placing our order (and with the conversation flowing) we decide to finish with something sweet. A moist slice of carrot cake with a light cream cheese frosting and a bag of brownie bites were perfectly complemented by a cup of cheeky hot chocolate and a toffee nut latte.
It may not be gourmet, but Urban Bites does quick, good quality food. With outlets in Khalidiya and Airport Road, it’s a convenient option for catching up with friends or grabbing a bite on the go.
