The city’s most brilliant boffins are taking their best-laid plans off the drawing board in preparation for the capital’s first-ever ‘invention’ showcase.

Called INNOVATOR 2014, the event will give around 200 Abu Dhabi ‘eggheads’ the opportunity to unveil their most creative and potentially ground-breaking self-made inventions to event visitors and the community, with huge cash prizes up for grabs.

Taking place on 8th March at the First Gulf Bank (FGB) Arena, this free event will see an eclectic collection of participating creators as well as industry speakers, live shows and interactive experiences; the Arachnobot by Tim Davis, a human powered giant spider will be lurking around the arena.

But these whiz kids of the tech world are here for more than a giant robotic spider. They’re here to impress the INNOVATOR panel and you in order to win two incredible prize funds. A panel of INNOVATOR mentors, offering a total AED 40,000 to the winner, will decide the INNOVATOR of the Year award. The People’s Choice Award is in your hands, as visitors will have a chance to vote for their favourite project, the winner of which will receive AED 20,000.

With a view of highlighting the ever- growing, do-it-yourself culture to the forefront of public awareness, Majid Al Mail, senior manager at the Abu Dhabi Technology Development Committee (TDC) and head of the INNOVATOR initiative is eager to increase this DIY mentality.

“We are very excited to have an array of fantastic, unique and creative entries, this just shows how much of a can-do DIY culture there already is here in the UAE. With INNOVATOR 2014 we want to give these talents a platform to bring forward their innovations and help cultivate a DIY movement across the region,” explained Al Mail.
