A host of frenzied cricket fans finally got their hands on their ‘golden’ tickets last week, as the  Indian Premier League (IPL) got set to bowl into the capital.

Thousands of barmy army fans for teams such as the Sunrisers Hyderbad and Mumbai Indians will be descending on Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium to watch their favourite international players step to the crease.

Tickets went on sale on 3rd April with almost 40,000 tickets being purchased online, half of which were bought within an hour of being made available. And after selling as fast as a Shane Watson yorker, chief executive of the Emirates Cricket Board, David East, expressed his excitement about the upcoming competition and what it’s doing for the sport here in the capital.

“It’s pleasing to see the way online ticket sales have sold for the United Arab Emirates leg of the Pepsi IPL 2014,” said East. “Apart from the cricket fans, the interest of cricket is growing among the people in the UAE. This is evident from the number of tickets sold on the very first day. The spectators will come in huge numbers to support and savour the IPL.”

Tickets are still available and can be bought online at either www.iplt20.com or www.ticketmaster.ae or at Al Wahda Mall, Khalidiya Mall, Mushrif Mall, Al Raha Mall or the Mazyad Mall. Tickets start from AED 20 for a single match.
Other ticket packages are also available.
