Four-year-old cancer patient Yasmin Mahsoub, who lives with her family in the capital, has now travelled to Singapore for vital treatment thanks to the generosity of donors.

Just over a month ago, Abu Dhabi Week issued an appeal for young Yasmin Mahsoub who suffers from a rare aggressive form of cancer that is untreatable in the UAE.

The Abu Dhabi public responded with generosity and AED 126,000 was donated, of which AED 25,000 was raised by Little Stars Gymnastics alone – enough to pay for Yasmin’s initial treatment. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy at Mount Elizabeth Orchard Hospital in Singapore.

“We thank everyone who donated money, cared and prayed from Yasmin,” said father Sherif Mahsoub.

“We are in a horrific situation because her tumour has grown to 14cm and it is too dangerous for doctor’s to remove it. We have to wait for two cycles of chemotherapy to be completed to see what happens.

“If Yasmin doesn’t respond to chemotherapy then doctors will be unable to operate, it’s too risky now and we could lose her. Yasmin’s mother’s spirits are very low and she cried a lot when she heard the news.”

Civil engineer Mahsoub is unable to join his wife in Singapore because he has to attend job interviews; he lost his job earlier this year when he took time off to care for his daughter.

“I would like to thank Abu Dhabi Week for the support and help that gave us the push to travel and start the treatment. We would again like to thank those who donated funds and we will keep you updated on her progress,” Mahsoub added.

At the moment, the fundraising campaign has been postponed as the family are waiting to see how well

young Yasmin responds to the first round of chemotherapy.
