Barbecue bliss

With the superb evening weather right now, we thought it was time to try some alfresco dining and enjoy the tastes of a traditional South American barbecue.

Without travelling on an arduous journey to the Pampas of Argentina we instead headed to the Westin for their grill night and took an outdoor seat alongside the pool surrounded by the gentle sounds of Latin music.

Delicate aromas of grilled meats and seafood filled the air and had us salivating immediately as friendly waiters offered us a fine selection of drinks from Argentina to accompany our meal.

There was an excellent selection of starters and salads including traditional soups, breads and savouries that just have to be tried. Seafood lovers won’t be disappointed as prawns, mussels, salmon and crab competed for space on trays of ice as diners help themselves to the buffet-style layout.

The ceviche, a popular dish of raw fish marinated in citrus juices and spiced with chili peppers was exceptionally tasty.

But where the evening really takes off is when you decide to tuck into the grilled meats. With a highly organised team of chefs, led by resident Chef David Contreras, busily placing beautifully marinaded cuts of beef, lamb and chicken of all shapes and sizes onto the parillada to cook, you can watch as your choices are grilled to perfection in front of you.

There’s a decent selection of desserts if you still have room or some lovely cheeses from South America to finish.

The atmosphere is jovial and fun and the night is perfect for a group of friends to head down, unwind and be spoilt by excellent food and drink.
