Fresh From The Kitchen Table

At the centre of innovation in Abu Dhabi there’s a restaurant renewing a basic love of food.

On the ground floor of the Siemens building in Masdar City lies Jim’s Kitchen Table, a homely restaurant offering a little bit of everything.

The exposed brick walls, open kitchen and quirky colander spotlights set the scene, with couches for coffee lovers, booths for families and an inviting balcony for people-watchers. The restaurant truly caters to everyone – and so does the food.

If you want something organic or gluten-free, you got it. But for two carnivores like my guest and I, meat was always going to be the priority.

At the recommendation of our server, I opt for the burger topped with Camembert cheese and red onion marmalade, while my guest – making his mind up in seconds – orders the slow cooked beef ribs.

The burger, served in a brioche-style bun, is packed with flavour with subtle yet creamy Camembert giving way to a punchy, caramelised red onion marmalade. Delicious.

The ribs, served off the bone, are succulent, juicy and devilishly moreish, going down a treat with the accompanying baked potato and shredded veg.

Washed down with some fresh coconut water for myself, and a chocolate shake for my guest, we barely have room for dessert and coffee, but we order it anyway.

My vanilla frozen yoghurt and my guest’s vanilla ice cream act as the perfect palate-cleanser – accompanied by a welcome cappuccino and espresso.

Finding another reason to visit Masdar, I’ll be going back to Jim’s, but next time to try the breakfast.
