All the right ingredients

Packing a serious appetite we headed over to The Big Brunch at the Eastern Mangroves Hotel and Spa by Anantara to check out their Friday feast.

After being seated on a cozy table near the epic dessert station (more on that later), we took a quick round throughout the elegant space to find out just what was up for the taking. There’s everything you’d expect at a high-end brunch – a large and varied salad bar, cheese and cracker station, and five open kitchens cooking up a handful of popular international cuisines including: Indian, European, Asian, Italian and Arabic.

We started our meal off with some leafy greens and a couple of homemade pretzels (a particular weakness of ours) before exploring the other options. One turn around the hotel’s buffet dining outlet and we were immediately drawn to the Asian cuisine station.

In addition to a fresh sushi section bursting with an assortment of handmade rolls to devour, there were individual Pan-Asian themed canapés displayed delicately on individual platters. We loved the lightly fried tempura vegetables. The most delightful of all however, was the creamy Tom Yum Soup. Filled to the brim with hunks of ginger, perfectly cooked shrimps and earthy mushrooms – we were sorely tempted to only sip soup for the rest of the afternoon.

After one (or maybe two) bowls of soup we then sampled a sliver of tender roast beef drizzled with gravy and a few Arabic appetisers to nibble on. When we simply couldn’t wait any longer we headed over to the dessert spread. Tables topped with pastries, tartlets, cakes, and sugary creations were situated next to an adorable sweetie display of lollies, gummies and marshmallows. There was even ice cream up for the taking!

With plenty on offer for the pickiest of eaters, this relaxing brunch has all the ‘ingredients’ you need for a wonderful way to kick-start your weekend.
