Tourism police keep capital visitors safe

The capital’s Tourism Police Section, part of Abu Dhabi Police, is continuing efforts to raise awareness about key tourist laws to ensure visitors have a safe and enjoyable stay in the emirate.

Representatives are busy distributing leaflets that lay out guidelines for tourists including the rules they must abide by on beaches, procedures regarding driving in the emirate and what to do in the case of losing a passport. Booklets are published in 15 languages in an effort to reach the maximum number of tourists.

A separate brochure educates taxi users on local customs, warns of exploitation by drivers and advises what to do if they lose personal belongings in taxis.

Established in 2008, the Tourism Police Section was created to keep up with the growing number of tourists to the emirate. It also aims to maintain the safety of tourists and touristic facilities.

The Tourism Police Section has four stationary offices around the capital at
Abu Dhabi Corniche Beach, Al Bateen Corniche, Criminal Investigation Department and Yas Waterworld along with a temporary office at Abu Dhabi Port. A permanent stand at Abu Dhabi International Airport provides visitors with booklets upon arrival.

The section is responsible for monitoring security situations in tourist areas, distributing awareness pamphlets, providing services during tourist events, patrolling safari trips and coordinating with relevant tourism authorities, hotels and agencies.

Tourists can contact the Tourism Police Section by calling 800 2626. Brochures can also be viewed online at www.hr.adpolice.gov.ae/tourismpolice
