Voracious readers heading to the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF) this week will not only be indulging in good reads, they’ll also be able to whet their appetites.

As part of the book fair’s expansive programme, a special Show Kitchen will be set up to teach and treat guests to various cuisines and dishes from around the world.

“I’m always proud to represent my country,” said Tareq Taylor, the Swedish restaurateur and TV chef who will be showcasing his ‘Scandilicious’ skills in the capital as part of ADIBF.

With Sweden being selected as the country of honour for the 24th edition of the fair, the culture and cuisine of the Nordic country will be featured prominently throughout the exhibition. Part of a 30-strong delegation of authors, poets, chefs, health experts and scientists arriving in the UAE, Taylor hopes to introduce the cuisine to residents here.

“Nordic cuisine is all about freshness. It’s all about trying to make the food as clear as possible,” he said. Known for his emphasis on using fresh, local and in-season ingredients, he added, “My philosophy is about living with nature. I live very close to both the sea and the forest, so I’ve always been able to walk out the door and see what nature has to offer. That is what I like to cook with. When you are able to walk along the beach and simply forage a meal, pick wild asparagus, get fresh fish from the ocean. It’s always nice to go outside and be inspired directly.”

The chef will be hosting special ‘Sweden Meets Arabia’ cookery sessions on Friday 2nd May from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, Saturday 3rd May from 8.30pm to 10pm, and on Sunday 4th May from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. The ADIBF runs at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre until 5th May and is free to attend. For more information visit: www.adbookfair.com.
