Abu Dhabi teachers brushed up on their skills in the classroom, when taking part in a special three-day leadership programme organised by the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC).

As part of the Reyada comprehensive professional development programme, ADEC hosted the conference for 120 teachers from across 30 schools in the emirate. Workshops focused on topics such as special education needs, active learning in kindergarten and early years, using IT to enhance learning and teaching, and English as a second language in mainstream subjects.

During the three-day programme attendees learned new techniques to improve teacher-student interactions when delivering lessons.

Using hands-on activities, teachers were able to put new strategies and methods into practice and gain valuable experience for future classes.

In addition to various workshops to help assess special needs students levels and needs, a handful of teachers also visited the Higher Colleges of Technology’s Assistive Technology Department to learn more about the latest technology that can be used in schools to help special needs students.

Teachers also were treated to lessons that focused on providing reading strategies for students whose first language is not English.

Open to teachers in any subject, from kindergarten to secondary, the workshops provided reading strategies for students who have had difficulties in their subjects due to their English language skills.
