Women around the capital lent a hand for victory this week, when participating
in the Mother of the Nation Ladies Handball Championship.
Sponsored by the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy, the event hoped to encourage and promote sport among women in the UAE community.
Held under the patronage of HH Fatima Bint Mubarak, the eight-day international competition will run until Saturday 21st September at the Al Jazira Sports Club.
The Al Jazira handball team, representing the UAE, will compete with a variety of teams from around the region, representing Algeria, Jordan, Morocco and Iraq.
“The support of more events like this is one of the ways that we plan to increase women’s participation across all sports in the UAE. Our aims are to see more women achieving high levels of sporting performance as well as increasing the numbers of women competing in sport and participating in physical activity,” said Dr Moza Al Shehhi, board member of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy.
