Your Abu Dhabi - Uzma Ashraf

Uzma Ashraf moved to Abu Dhabi with her husband around six months ago. She works as a primary school teacher for ADEC andis originally from the UK. Abu Dhabi Week asked Uzma what are the five things she likes best about living in Abu Dhabi.

Climate

What I enjoy most about Abu Dhabi is the weather. I’m from the UK so I will always appreciate the UAE’s amazing sunshine. In fact one of the reasons I moved here was for warmer weather and being able to walk along the Corniche all year round and not feel a chill is amazing!

Islamic culture

I especially love that you can have halal food anywhere and everywhere! It's nice to pop into a restaurant and not worry about whether the meat is halal or not, and because there is so much variety in the different foods available you can always try new things.

Activities and events

There is always something happening here in the capital. It is so easy to get involved in the major events here, from taking part in the 40th year National Day celebrations on the Corniche beach to the recent sport and fitness event at ADNEC. The best thing is most events are free and open to everyone to participate.

Shopping

There are seven malls! Each one of the malls has its own attraction from Cine Royal in Khalidiya Mall to the lovely fountain displays in Marina Mall. Shopping for me has developed from a pastime into a hobby! It’s lovely to spend the afternoon wandering through a mall and enjoying all it has to offer.

Tax Free

The financial benefits are a major bonus when living here. Being able to earn a tax-free income allows me to have more freedom with my lifestyle. We’ve been able to save for our future while still enjoying our time here.
